Amongst the attributes considered attractive in people, healthy hair is pretty much at the top. It won’t be an exaggeration to say that it can make or break a person’s whole appearance or look. Also, it is associated with youth and vitality. People with a head full of hair are generally perceived as young, and as per studies, are also considered attractive to the opposite sex.
But a lot of people star losing hair as they age, sometime even people as young as 20 start losing hair. Androgenic alopecia or male pattern baldness is one of the major culprits for baldness and hair loss in men.
Hair loss is not just detrimental to one’s appearance, it can cause some serious psychological, and body issues. Research shows that hair loss can case anxiety, depression, and trigger body dysmorphic disorder – a condition that causes people to have obsessive ideas about their appearance being severely flawed. In fact, it can lead to a person feeling insecure and under-confident in their personal and professional relationships.
But thanks to the advancement in medicine, hair restoration procedures have emerged as a permanent solution to hair loss and balding. Hair restoration and hair transplant in India is done with proper examination. In the last decade especially, these procedures have become readily available and a lot of stigma surrounding them is diminishing as well.
A hair restoration is a medical procedure that involves moving hair follicles from the donor site – usually the back or sides of the persons head, or from others parts of the body like chest, legs etc to the bald or balding areas, or the recipient site.
The two major techniques of restoration used by surgeons around the globeare FUE and FUT. FUE or Follicular Unit Extraction involves taking individual hair follicles from the donor area and implanting it onto bald or balding spots. The transplanted hair then continues to grow naturally in thenew spot. While FUT or Follicular Unit Transplantation involves removing astrip of scalp from the donor area, dividing it into tiny grafts, each of whichcontains a few hairs, and then transplanting them into the bald spots.
The outcome of these procedures is both permanent and aesthetically pleasing. These procedures don’t deliver the same results as old hair transplants that gave an appearance of ‘pluggy’ or doll-like hair. FUE and FUT transplanted hair looks very natural and it is almost impossible to tell whether someone has had one.
The surgery itself is almost pain-free and non-invasive. The recovery period is very short and the patient can leave the hospital the same day and continue to live normally without any after-effects or resting period. They can even join work, if they have to, within a few days.
In the first few days of surgery, the patient might feel some stretchiness on the donor and transplant sites, and there is some inflammation, but both subside within the first week. The hair from the transplanted follicles first sheds a few weeks from surgery, and eventually regrows within some months, the patient will have full growth in nine to 12 months post-surgery.
It is a simple procedure, but the one thing to be careful about is choosing the right clinic and surgeon. Due to the popularity of the procedure, hair transplant clinics have mushroomed, and some medical practitioners who are not so well-experienced have started offering these services. This can be dangerous especially since it concerns a person’s appearance, and a bad surgeon can botch the procedure. Thorough research is essential before choosing a surgeon and the clinic. Find a clinic that can offer enough testimonials from past patients or go by recommendation from people who have got this done already. There are many online forums that can help.
Needless to say, there is no need to live with thin hair or be bald, because the best solution is already available in the form of a hair transplant.
